Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira

Activities at Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira aim at ensuring food safety, promoting animal health and welfare, and developing the prerequisites for plant and animal production, and plant health.  Fields of operation at Evira include food control supervision and guidance, laboratory operations, risk assessments and scientific research. Evira also controls veterinarian certifications, and the Zoonoosis Centre operating over networks.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is a public Institution of Higher Education, integrated in the University of Lisbon, with the mission to develop, apply and communicate veterinary science and education for the benefit of society, through education and research. Modern societies are increasingly confronted with animal health and welfare related issues with considerable impact upon global economy and public health. Social claims for the development of novel environmental sustainable systems for animal production and agriculture are justifiably increasing. Research activities at FMV are carried out within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Research in Animal Health (CIISA), which maintain a broad cooperation with national and international institutions. Wildlife health, biodiversity conservation and ‘one health’ issues are aspects covered by CIISA.

CODA-CERVA (Federal Veterinary and Agrochemical Research Centre) is the appointed National Reference Laboratory for veterinary diseases and is an existing member of the EMIDA-ERA network. CODA-CERVA is currently funding several emerging disease EMIDA projects, such as EMIDA-VICE (Vector-borne Infections: risk based and cost efficient surveillance systems), as well as in EMIDA Early Detection Data (Improving early detection of emerging vector borne diseases by using existing production and diagnostic data).

CODA-CERVA is the Belgian National Reference Laboratory for many (re)emerging and zoonotic veterinary pathogens, including several that have been selected for WP3. In addition, CODA-CERVA already has stimulated the dissemination of available wildlife disease surveillance and network information, through hosting the 4^th and 5^th BWDS Symposium (Consequences of Wildlife Introductions, 2011 & Spatial Approach of Wildlife Diseases, 2013) and through active participation in the BWDS and its website (http://www.bwds.be).

The French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (Anses) is a public authority reporting to the Ministries of Health, Agriculture, the Environment, Labour and Consumer Affairs. Its principal mission is to contribute to the protection of human health with respect to the environment, the workplace and food. The Anses Laboratory for Rabies and Wildlife of Nancy (LRFSN) contributes to national knowledge of the health status of wildlife through multiple collaborations within national epidemiological surveillance networks and field studies. As wildlife may act as reservoirs of zoonoses or diseases that are transmissible to domestic animals, monitoring their health status is both a public health and an economic issue. The laboratory has a staff of 43, two research units and an experimental station.
